Wiltshire Road Race League #5

The promise of chocolate drew 150 runners to the start line for the Trowbridge “Chocoholics” 5K organised by Stampede Sports. With the temperatures heading towards twenty degrees the race was on to complete the course before the chocolate medals that were presented to all finishers melted!

First around the course in a very impressive 15:49 was Simon Nott of Calne Running Club who received a chocolate trophy to commemorate his achievement. Fifteen seconds adrift was Mark Harris of Enfield & Harringey and third Ewen Malloch of Team Bath.

In the ladies race Ruth Barnes of Avon Valley Runners had to set a new club record of 17:51 to secure her chocolate trophy with Denise Grech of Calne SMaRTT second and newly crowned county 3000m champion Fiona Price of Avon Valley Runners in third.

With Team Bath runners Stephen Rose and Gary Hughes taking the MV40/MV50 titles and Jackie Rockliffe and Tina Towler of Avon Valley Runners the FV40/FV50 titles, the team race was going to be tight, however superior numbers in the field ensured that Avon Valley Runners maintained their 100% record at the top of the Wiltshire Road Race League.

Devizes Running Club who embraced the race dressed as Willy Wonka and the oompa loompas took full points for the second division which they now head from Calne Running Club.

The next race in the Wiltshire Road Race League is the Chippenham 5 on Sunday 9th June.
