Wiltshire Road Race League #3
Leading from the start was Simon Nott of Calne Running Club who lowered his own course record time down to thirty two minutes and sixteen seconds and finished over two minutes ahead of second placed Ben Brewster of Salisbury A&RC and third placed Stuart Henderson of Corsham Running Club. In 5th place David Vaudin of Team Bath claimed the 1st MV50 prize just ahead of 8th placed Nathan Smith of Devizes Running Club who claimed the 1st MV40 prize. In 64th place was Ian Thompson running for South West Vets who added the 1st MV60 prize to his collection which includes the gold medal from the 1974 Commonwealth Games marathon.
In the ladies race Naomi Webber of Team Bath took the honours in 38:22 just edging out Clare Thompson of Sheffield Running Club with the pair the best part of three minutes ahead of third placed Fiona Price of Avon Valley Runners. Caroline Blake of Chippenham Harriers had a good run to take the FV35 prize and Diane Hier of Avon Valley Runners claimed the FV45 prize with Margaret Thompson of Team Bath finishing as the 1st FV55.
The team race proved tight with Avon Valley Runners just edging out Chippenham Harriers for their third successive win in the Wiltshire Road Race League and now extend their lead at the top of Division One to five points. However in the Second Division an absence of Frome Running Club saw their lead at the top of the table slashed to just two points ahead of Devizes Running Club with both Calne Running Club and Pewsey Vale moving within three points of the top spot.
Michael Bright of Chippenham Harriers now heads the individual rankings ahead of Thomas Coney and Richard Morgetroyd both of Avon Valley Runners. For the ladies Jill Westwood of Avon Valley Runners is the leading scorer ahead of club mates Tina Towler and Rosemary Barber.
The next event in the Wiltshire Road Race League is the Highworth 5 on Sunday April 14th.
