South West T&F Championships

07/08/2016 By Rich Keyzor

South West Inter Counties Track and Field Championships, Exeter

A great day for the Wiltshire team, who have now been confirmed as claiming second place overall with 450 points, well behind the home county Devon but 61 points ahead of Somerset. Wiltshire were second overall in both the men’s competition with 214 points and the ladies event with 236 points. In the age groups Wiltshire won the U13B with 51 pts.

Fantastic news, a magnificent result – I cannot remember when the county team was placed this highly in the Inter County competition. A huge thank you and congratulations to all the athletes, parents and supporters as well as the Wiltshire officials who helped make the day a success.

There were lots of athletes medalling and recording PBs. I’m really delighted with the team result, especially considering the county team was sadly depleted in the Senior competition and under-represented in U20s, due mainly to the clash with other events like the half-marathon championships and T&F league meetings elsewhere in the country.

The full results have now been verified and are posted on Power of 10.

Thank you again to all who competed, supported, drove to Exeter and made it another great day for Wiltshire athletics, whether they were experienced competitors or first-time athletes of whatever age. Well done to you all.
