Launch the Mud! Off-Road League 2024/25 Begins!
The Wiltshire Off Road Race League 24/25 kicked off in superb style at The Cirencester Slog.
Despite some major road races around the country, we had a total of 76 runners, across 13 affiliated clubs from Wiltshire, taking part. This was a fabulous number of entries given that this is one of the 2 bonus out of county races this season. This one is also the most northerly of the races in the county, this year.
The race did not disappoint. It is set in the beautiful Cirencester Park, the route crosses both public and private land on Lord Bathurst’s Estate. The race is in just its second year and is solely in existence to raise funds for the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) as well as for retired service animals.
The 10miles was mostly flat, though with a couple of ‘undulations’, run mostly on grass, though we still found some mud and while we seemed to run in a lot of straight lines also had some twists and turns when we least expected it.

I want to call out Calne SMaRTT in particular at this race who fielded a full team of 5 Ladies at this race, one of only 2 to do so with the other being Chippenham Harriers.
Individual Male:
- 1st James Belllward, Chippenham Harriers
- 2nd Jake Stephens, Chippenham Harriers
- 3rd Will Ballard, Chippenham Harriers
Individual Female:
- 1st Emily Griffiths, Team Bath Athletics Club
- 2nd Emma Haley, Chippenham Harriers
- 3rd Laura Midwinter-Brown, Corsham Running Club
Next WORL event will be in Dorset at The Stickler. This is likely to be a total contrast to our visit to Cirencester – who’s joining us??
The 3rd race will be just one week later in the fast selling out Over the Hills as we begin to settle into our 6 races within the Wiltshire boundaries.
