SERVICES TO ATHLETICS – DAVE AMEY
Dave Amey joined the then Salisbury Athletics Club back in 1957 and after more than 50 years he is still a huge influence in Athletics within Salisbury and the County of Wiltshire.
Dave is passionate about athletics and began his coaching career in 1980. Since then he has influenced and mentored scores of athletes with an array of county, regional and national winners to his name. Henrietta Paxton, Michelle Smith and Veryan Weeks are just some of the illustrious athletes to have benefited from Dave’s coaching. His current training group includes Alex Mundell ranked 4th in the UK for 800 metres as an under 15 girl.
Dave is also a level 3 field official although with his years of experience he is able turn his hand to any discipline. He particularly excels as marksman where his infectious enthusiasm and sense of humour ensure there are no glum faces on the start line.
Dave is highly respected by sports professionals within the county and his expertise is regularly called upon by local schools when organising the district and county athletics championships. He maintains the equipment at Salisbury Athletics track and was largely responsible for the recertification of the track earlier this year.
Dave’s philosophy is ‘Improvement will always follow on from hard work and dedication’
