Wiltshire Half Marathon Championships

07/10/2012 By Rich Keyzor

Three hundred runners lined up in near perfect conditions for the 30th staging of the Cricklade Half Marathon which this year was also playing host to the Wiltshire Half Marathon championships. Leading from the start around the flat course which takes in the Cotswold Water Park was Simon Plummer of Salisbury A&RC in a season’s best time of 69 minutes and 55 seconds. The race victory saw Simon take a clean sweep in Wiltshire championship medals having already claimed gold at the Castle Combe 10K and the Melksham 10. Coming in second place overall and claiming the county silver medal was Michael Towler of Avon Valley Runners and finishing in sixth place overall was Andrew Ind of Marlborough Running Club who claimed the county bronze.

In the Ladies race Fiona Price continued her recent run of good form by clocking 1:28:14 to take race victory and the county gold medal. In third place Henrietta Mackinnon of Marlborough Running Club took the Wiltshire silver medal and in fourth place, Jo Mumford of Avon Valley Runners claimed the bronze.

The race was also #10 in the Wiltshire Race League and saw Swindon Harriers take maximum points ahead of Chippenham Harriers, however Avon Valley Runners remain in top spot for the men with a four point advantage over Chippenham Harriers. In the Ladies table Chippenham Harriers managed to retake first place as they took maximum points ahead of Swindon’s Slinn Allstars. The next race in the Wiltshire Race League is the Calne Clock Change Challenge 10K on October 28th.
