SW Inter-County XC
Wiltshire Athletic Association assembled one of its largest teams in recent years to take on Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Somerset at Bicton College near Exeter in the South West Inter-County XC Championships.
Wiltshire got off to a great start with Ciara Newcastle from Melksham taking victory in the Under-11 Girls race over a challenging 1.2K course. Shortly afterwards in the Under-13 Girls race over 3.1K, Abigail Burns from City of Salisbury A&RC came through to take the bronze medal position. Rory Howorth of Team Bath had an untroubled run over 4.1K to bring the gold medal in the Under-13 Boys back to Wiltshire with him.
The Senior Men were led home by 20th placed Michael Towler of Avon Valley Runners over a very tough 8.9K course, supported by the Team Bath trio of 29th placed Allister Sheffield, 31st placed Hugo Coutinho and 39th placed Chris Hine along with 42nd placed Simon Byrne of Swindon Harriers and 48th placed Rich Ayling of Avon Valley Runners but could not break on to the podium.
The Senior Ladies put in a fantastic silver medal winning team performance with Katherine Turner of Team Bath leading home for Wiltshire in third place over the 5.6K course, supported by club mate Imogen Wolsey in 6th place, 12th placed (and 2nd U20) Lillie Bellamy of Swindon Harriers, 23rd placed Alex Mundell from City of Salisbury A&RC, 26th placed Jackie Rockliffe of Avon Valley Runners and 40th placed Cordula Hurcum of Chippenham Harriers.
